Total incoherent rant follows! I'm crap at writing at the best of times, let alone when angry.
Making women feel so guilty about breastfeeding they commit suicide...so says the tactless, clearly confused, Daisy "I let Claire Verity near some babies for the sake of my ratings never mind the fact even the NSPCC were appalled" Goodwin.

This attack, as usual planned just before National Breastfeeding Week, has to be the most abhorrent I've read. Using a new mum's postpartum psychosis suicide as a tool to undermine breastfeeding! I just hope the family don't see this article. This mother was failed, nobody spotted her illness, and the debate about breastfeeding is also about women being failed.

Daisy Goodwin has also failed woman...even parentkind with this article (I'm not even going to start on her involvement on Bringing up Baby). Those who try and help women breastfeed, are mostly unpaid like myself, so this in incredibly insulting someone to get paid to spout myths as usual and undo all our work.

Lactivists, breastfeeding nazis, whatever you want to call us are passionate about the seemingly insignificant issue of infant feeding. Agreed 10 years ago I'd be like "what the fuck are you on about you hippy". But being of curious mind I like to inform myself, after all parenting is the most important job there is.
I'm not doing that pandering about thing, basically choosing formula is taking a risk with your child's health, from over double the rate of SIDS, 8 times the risk of certain cancers and...well I could go on forever. It's irrefutable, nobody faced with the evidence can deny breastfeeding is normal (not best, no mother is best, no mother is perfect), it's how babies are made and born to be fed. So any other way of feeding a baby is to only be undertaken in dire circumstances, when it's a last resort. That is what formula is. Not something you choose because you want a social life. Choose children, choose their life. They come first, that's how it works.
This article describes breastfeeding like some major hardship or hassle (it can be when you need to fight for help), like the life force is drained out of you by somekind of soul sucking alien from Torchwood. It's not, not if you get it right. Which means getting support from family, health professionals, counsellors and peer supporters. Daisy is attacking the help that can make breastfeeding a happy experience and successful. She's not the failed breastfeeding mother's voice she thinks she is here, she's their enemy.
We are few and far between, breastfeeding mothers are bullied into giving bottles, given bad advice, because we ahve faced this we often go on to trying to help others. How dare she put us down and let mothers who may breastfeed down too.

Not that all women need help, I was lucky enough to find it a piece of piss (despite having never seen anyone breastfeed until I did it)...and I have ulcerative colitis. If I'm ill and manage it (and enjoyed it) then a healthy woman can do it! Just need to be fully informed. Which is what I fight for.
Because the billion dollar industry that is the formula business has nothing but profit driving them. They will say anything to make you think it's just as good as breastmilk, and they do say anything in incredibly sneaky ways. This is what angers me most.
Parents do not know the truth, so no wonder we look nuts to them, they have no idea it is a big deal. Generations of mothers have been fooled by marketing. SMA, Cow & Gate...they are all taking then piss out of us.
"Haha we are making them fight, making those who are trying to help the babies and the mothers look like bullies, and we are getting all the money."
I don't blame women who choose to bottlefeed, I feel bad for them, they missed out, they were tricked. I'm trying to stand up for those who are accusing us of being nazis!
If a woman knowing all the risks still chooses it, well on her head be it. None of my business.
But I just think it's a nice thing to do, as a human, to make sure parents know those formula adverts lie, those myths aren't true and that with qualified help 98% of women can breastfeed.
Guilt, it's the wrong emotion it should be anger women who have been poorly supported and ended up formula feeding feel. But it's what mothers do, we feel guilty no matter what we do. But those trying to help women breastfeed are not imposing that guilt on them. Direct these feelings into something more positive instead. Like peer supporting. For I was failed too, my eldest was fed just 4 months, my then GP failed me with her poor knowledge of breastfeeding. Instead of woe is me, I'm trying to make sure it doesn't happen to another family.

As for the comment

erm actually breastfeeding on cue with a baby strapped to you makes life as a mother easier! Do you really think a non driving mother of 3 would make life harder for herself! I got to have a life while my babies were small while seeing to their physiological needs because I did these things.

But basically, if advertising was banned, if all health professionals sang from the same hymn sheet and gave accurate up to date advice and help, if family supported women, if we all shut the fuck up arguing between ourselves, and just get on with trying to achieve the 98% breastfeeding rate that we know is possible (see Norway)...we might just have a far healthier generation of children and far happier experience of motherhood.
As for the 2% who can't, with that many mothers nursing there'd be enough donated milk to go round!

Quicken the Heart

I just couldn't be good and wait patiently for my preordered copy of the new Maximo Park album to arrive could I? It got leaked at the weekend and somehow found itself in my itunes. Rascal of an album that it is.
I kinda want to review it a bit as I cheekily listened early, but I'm not a wordy girl, in fact if I try to describe why I like the band so much I have to revert back to my old physicist ways and say that I just resonate on the Park frequency. So this will be a bit crap, unlike the album! I'm coming to the conclusion I love it more than Earthly Pleasures. It feels a bit more like A Certain Trigger, a bit fresher and happier despite actually some songs being rather sad like Calm. Perfect timing getting my first week with Quicken the Heart to coincide with such lovely sunny weather. Stick it on your ipod and go for a walk, or a train journey. It's ideal company.

I think I have to start with the aural foreplay of Let's Get Clinical, It's fantastically synthy and dirty, there's gin, sin and sexual analogies fuelling a Paul Smith crush. He calls it robo-funk-pop, I call it robo-fuck-pop and I like this genre.

Calm is lovely, got this fantastic hook of a melody which the song opens with. It will come to mean summer to me I'm sure. It makes your head go whimsy. You think it's happy at first, you gradually come to realise it's sad. It's not calm in a contented way, it's a depressed calm, a numb one. So even knowing this how does the tune feel uplifting still?

A Cloud of Mystery lyrically reminds me of Night I Lost My Head a little. That was about regretting being off your tits when you meet a girl you like. This is one about wishing you could always meet that girl keeping that enigmatic aura going. Before he starts farting in bed or something.

In Another World (You Would've Found Yourself By Now), this I suspect will be a great sung along at gigs one. The chorus and there are some great whoahs! I particularly like the line "all the other girls live their lives without self doubt" as I feel most of the time I'm the only one who worries about the things I do. Now the threat to "wipe that smile of your face" in this song has got me thinking about Clinical again....

Anyway on to The Penultimate Clinch, he's a bit more narked in this one "bee in my bonnet", more urgently moving along and occasionally he seems to soften and has that penultimate clinch. I love the bit (this is where lacking technical language off songs fails me) after it lightens up a tad you get a lovely bit of instrumental action. Is it a middle 8? I don't know but I like that bit (starts at 2.00 min).

I Haven't Seen Her In Ages, again lovely wistful head style song. You kind of wish you had angsty thoughts to go with Maximo Park. The verses are romantic recollections of splendid days together, then he hits you with the fantastic line "she ripped me to shreds" with no apparent mood change in the music. Lovely pop, lovely poetic lyrics. To be expected from these guys!

Overland, West Of Suez is a noisey, busy, even 60s in parts kind of song, so much so I've not yet really picked up on the lyrics much. In fact I have no idea what it's about. Needs more listening.

and then again at the recording of the Shockwaves Channel 4 Album Chart Show at Koko at couple of weeks ago. I was most chuffed when Paul spotted I knew the lyrics. I'm all about the chorus and the frozen stardust. I love to watch a storm.

Roller Disco Dreams could be about my hen night which I spent at Rollerworld (nearly 5 years ago now) but it's another fast paced song on a noisier level to reflect the pre-Nosebleed style quality to the story. Almost Cure music like in parts.

Finally Tanned (totally out of order here, itunes decided and I've ignored the 2 you've heard already), again not new to me.

what with all the facebooking and now that twittering I've turned into the worst blogger ever (not that I really write it expecting it to be read, it's more like a diary I can't lose). The last post was about watching IT Crowd filming, the series has aired and the DVD is being made already! You don't need me to tell you how funny it is.

Obviously day to day I have bugger all to say, ooh I woke up, took them to school, went to asda and hoovered. Thrilling stuff. See normally I'm pregnant by now (as in when my youngest goes to playschool) so have something to look forward to. Plus thanks to those hormones housework is slightly enjoyable in that nesting way.
But there are no more little people to be made so I'm bored stupid with housewifery atm. But the children bit is obviously wonderful. I'm loving watching their sense of humours develop, Jensy's very must at that "cat goes woof" and that's funny stage, Dillon is more slapstick and Tyler is really into Shooting Stars, he's got quite a surreal sense of humour. Keeps singing about baked potato.
Oh and I finished my breastfeeding peer supporter course, just got to set the group up.

Anyway I have actually done a couple of things since I last blogged, in October I went to Amsterdam and my eldest boy had his first school trip staying away overnight!
In November I finally got to go along and see Magistrates play the Barhouse. So excited about their album coming out this year. .

I also popped (I say that as if it's easily done, but fitting in school run, dinner and babysitting arrangements plus getting to London Bridge for 7ish is knackering) along to see Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz's listening party thing, The Other Side, at Shunt. It was an authentic (I assume as I have no experience as yet) sneeky listen to a radio show for dead people. Attention to detail, as always with those two, was brilliant. I loved the whole aural atmosphere of the show and the choice of venue couldn't of being any better. It was a while ago now, and I do so hope I get to hear it again, but what sticks in my head was the sketch "How did you die?" in a very lighthearted local radio phone in style. All this heard through wireless headphones, sat round in a candle lit room, made it even more funny. It's really weird laughing and not being able to hear yourself.

Then December was Christmas, I cooked Christmas dinner for the first time with help from Nigella, Jon back at work Boxing Day and little Jensy throwing up the day after (not related to my dinner, honest).
Highlight of my festive tv viewing was Peter's show and of course Doctor Who.

January I turned 30 and wish to forget the whole event, Jensy started preschool and then in February it snowed (like it's barely been mentioned on the news). Yay!

As for the future, obviously I still need to learn to drive (I spotted a company called Jam advertised in The Edge, I may go with them based just on that name). I've also got to work out what on earth I'm going to do when all boys are in school (omg next September..and even more wtf omg Tyler starts secondary school) and get an opportunity to make some of that money stuff. I have no idea what I could be paid for doing.
Oh and I have tickets to see Matt Berry at Scala in April, I'm assuming it's to promote his new album, proving he's not just a pretty voice, trumpets and electric sex pants!
Oh and I am so excited, new Maxïmo Park album out this year and I'm going to the Brixton gig in May.

Oh and..no not really. I really must stop saying that so much, it's annoying.

Being the lazy blogger I am I have too much to say now. Do I start with the newest first and work backwards?

Well Friday I went to see the first episode of the greatly anticipated 3rd series of The IT Crowd at the infamous Pinewood studios. Massive and awkward trek down on the train but totally worth the effort. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into details but I'm already quoting bits of it to myself, if this episode is anything to go by we are in for a great series. Next Friday I'll have more proof for the pudding (I'm totally abusing the phrase and annoying pedants, vice versa would be more fun, there but I'm sure you know what I mean) as I'm going again! Yay! It's Jon's birthday the next day so it's kind of a treat for him.
He has already had his pressie when I bought him an ipod touch the other week. I keep stroking it (the ipod that is). It is lovely.
It also helped me with the guilt of buying myself the Canon EOS 450D after much deliberation. My very first DSLR at last! I feel a bit neglectful and sad for my Fuji S6500 now, how sad is that? Feeling disloyal to my old camera!

Aunty Beeb contacted me to see if they could use them! I said yes of course but I don't know if they ever did make anything of them. Nice to be asked though!

I'm all out of sync now, after V, just a few weeks ago Jon and I got to be in the audience for Mock The Week. I just had to see what on earth Frankie Boyle came out with before it was edited out. I don't think he's aware of the existence of the line, which is good. As much as I like silly inoffensive humour too it's nice to hear someone say things you may secretly think to yourself. They cut some funny Fagin and Oliver stuff from the night I went and I still had face ache the next morning.

I can just about see the back of my head at the beginning.

Snuffbox DVD

I was a rather lucky girl the other day and managed to bag myself tickets (thanks to Danny Wallace on the radio) to the Snuffbox DVD release show.
You probably missed it when first aired, BBC were doing their usual trick of overly promoting some of their weaker output (2 pints and what not) and hiding their best commissions like some dirty little secret (which reminds me of Graham Linehan's recent article in the Stage). Which is a shame as the best stuff is then missed by many viewers. Thank goodness we have youtube and other means of re discovering these shows. Snuffbox was one I had never seen (despite loving Mr Berry and Fulcher's work elsewhere)until I saw this posted on b3ta's links page. I couldn't believe I'd missed this.

Thankfully due to persistent fans and a petition the beeb released it on DVD. I hope now there'll be a second series too.
It was too late notice to find a fellow comedyfan/babysitter so I went alone to the Pigalle club. Thankfully Snuffbox fans are very friendly and then I was fortunate enough to bump into some of my all time favourite comedy people (if you know me it's quite easy to guess that would be the lovely Robert Popper, Peter and James Serafinowicz) and watched the show in their company. I was very pleased to find out there'll be a christmas special of Peter's show.
There was a great moment where Matt smashed up and 2 pints DVD and proceeded to piss on it. Rapper with a baby was great and I really liked the audience participation involved in the performance of this sweary song.

Just quickly want to wish Paul and Magistrates luck at Latitude next week. You can download their single Make This Work from here! It's been great to hear them getting some well deserved airplay recently.

And for those wondering, yes LDN is still working!

Maxïmo Park @ The Forum

My goodness I had no idea how exhausting moving house was! I was less tired after giving birth!
It took it's toll and the minute I sat down Friday night I discovered I was ill. So I spent the first few days in my new house in bed. Luckily I had downloaded the last episodes of House to keep me entertained (tissues are needed if you watch the last one).
Despite this I managed to drag myself to London (narrowly missing the whole bridge falling down incident on the way in)on Wednesday night to see Maximo Park. So glad I managed it as they were fantastic!

It was a gig in aid of The Royal Marsden Hospital and No Surrender Charitable Trust as a friend of their's has recently been battling cancer. He came on to introduce the band's set.
I enjoyed all the supporting acts, Pete and The Pirates, Blood Red Shoes and Mystery Jets but or me they pale in comparison to the live show the Park
pull off. Paul Smith seems to be in a sexy flirtatious mood now, moreso than any other gig I've been too (and this was my 6th). He really does own the stage, covering every metre and interacting with the audience.
I was so pleased they gave us 2 new songs too! Tanned was the first one, I really like the riff and Questing which I seem to remember Paul introducing as romantic.

It was rather frustrating that I cannot take my own camera, it looks too much like a professional one so I had to grab a cheap compact for gigging. Not too
bad for £70 though I thought.

I had paid extra for an aftershow ticket but the gig ran on too late or me to go and get the last train home so had to miss out on it Right old palavar getting home anyway as Liverpool St was closed due to the incident
and had to go to Stratford. Train full of twats mainly too!

The internet is awash with comments from disgusted people who think she's somekind of pervert for breastfeeding in public but I hear little criticism for being spanked in a film or using her body to sell underwear (which I have no problem with either). How sad is it that in our society to make money or entertain breasts in all their glory are fine, but when feeding a baby it's an outrage. Quite pathetic.
I for one think the picture with her baby is lovely.
I'm still feeding Jensy, which means all together in my whole life I have been breastfeeding for 4 years and 8 months!

I've not had any trouble getting to sleep so far, but taking ldn is the very last thing I do at night so it probably doesn't get a chance to bother me in that way. I am however getting the vivid dreams that are reported as a side effect! Not scary or anything, just very real. I'm also suddenly awful at waking up in the morning now. Just cannot open my eyes. It feels like I've been dreaming the entire night.
In myself though I feel much brighter if that makes any sense. Just an overall feeling of goodness!

Here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday. Jon was bathing the boys, I stuck Eastenders on pause and ran out for a quick snap!

Low Dose Naltrexone

I've had crappy Ulcerative Colitis for 4 years now, really had enough of it now. The conventional treatments are nasty, scary with horrid side effects. I also don't agree with how they work. Just suppressing the immune system because it's playing up and dumping a load of unpleasant side effects on you. Not actually doing much good in my opinion!
So it's lucky I found talk about Low Dose Naltrexone online. The way it works makes perfect sense to me. It temporarily blocks some receptors in my brain that respond to endorphins, tricking me into making more. Hopefully these lovely endorphins will make my immune system behave itself! It did after giving birth to Jenson (he turned 2 yesterday!), that lovely natural homebirth released shed loads of endorphins and I was in remission for a few weeks after.
I started taking LDN last night (I had to sign a disclaimer about it being off licence to get it on the NHS), fingers crossed it works!

I'm still here! That naughty facebook has been distracting me from blogging duties. That and running around after my 3 scamps and househunting. Finally going to get out of woodham. It is a nice clean and tidy place and I love the views but I need to live somewhere more sociable with more life going on!

Nothing interesting has happened really, although I did get to go to a screening of some Peter Serafinowicz show in Notting Hill last week which was fun. I'm going to miss Butterfield.
So apart from that we've just been getting chillier, doing some christmas shopping, went to Tropical Wings and are looking forward to visiting Lapland UK soon. I would love to go to real Lapland one day, mainly to see the aurora borealis.

Jenson has had somekind of spurt in the communication and understanding departments. Well he worked out where the biscuits are kept and can almost ask for them properly.

I was being all rather grown up about Verity but had a momentary puerile slip up and channelled the anger through my photoshop!

A few press releases are now surfacing and tonight is the final show. I can predict those who trained their babies will be happy, Getting to do what they want, when they want and not seeing to their child's needs. Thing is they have had many years of going out and being together already, and many years ahead of them to have a social life and me time. They are really missing out on spending this babymoon time getting to know their baby, all those new baby cuddles, just the smell of their little heads is heavenly. In the years to come when their babies have grown up fast they will realise what they have missed and just what on earth they have done in listening to that woman.

Friday night I got to see Maximo park again! Fantastic as always, had great fun getting right in there in the middle for the last song mosh type activity.

If I were to review that Bringing Up Baby programme this blog would descend into a furious rage of obscenities! What on earth possessed them to let that Verity woman have any kind of air time to peddle her neglectful and harmful ideas!
So I'll leave it to those who write far more calmly that me over at the Social Baby blog.
Please do sign this important petition and bulletin/poke everyone else into doing so too. Babies can't speak up (especially when they are shut in a garden for hours alone) so we have to do it instead.

Well I have a couple of television programme related comments, very much different from each other. One I am dreading and have bought a bottle wine just to get me through it without seething with anger so much I break my tv. The other I'm bursting with excitement about.

Sounds ridiculous I'm forcing myself to watch such a heartbreaking piece of television but how will I be able to make a proper complaint to OFCOM after Bringing up Baby airs! Claire Verity should be allowed any air time to peddle her neglectful and potential life threatening bollocks she calls advice. She clearly has no place caring for a baby lacking in the post important skills of empathy, foresight and possessing a heart. Her ideas lack any remote hint of being responsive or attending to the baby's needs. A baby may just survive but certainly not thrive under such conditions.
For a start scheduled feeds, we all know that one is bonkers. Lucky if you can successfully breastfeed, risk of dehydration, supply issues and food issues later. Recommending it for premmies is just fucking loony. You are actually supposed to wake early babies for feeds, not leave them to cry alone all night. All for the sake of this bloody "me time" these parents demand. Witholding affection, love and cuddles isn't just cruel because it feels wrong...it really is abusive. Parts of the brain fail to develop if they are not stimulated by touch, conversation and social interaction from day one.
I just wish instead of making a programme that involves a baby being treated like this just to get the ratings why could they have no debated the various approaches to parenting. I know there are varying views on childcare but the Verity/Truby Kind way is blatantly harmful and shouldn't even be entered into the arena as a possible option to choose. It belongs in the past, when we knew little about brain development in babies. We should learn from it, not copy!
Other problem with this program is it's obviously recent, you need to see the long term results.

Enough of the ranting. Here have a cheeky boy of 17 months now doing his Calvin Harris type look today. He went to Tumble Tots for the first time this morning. On the way back we went to Asda and found some bullox!
Last night that husband of mine got to attend the screening of The Peter Serafinowicz Show (I'm going next month) and spotted me in a sketch!! I'm so nervous I'll look huge on tv. Despite this I am more excited about this than Antmas! Jon came home and told me all about the show, some part were so funny he had great difficulty in speaking without laughing, I was in tears, you know when you really get the giggles and can't stop.

After Jenson had a little nap the clouds were looking all emo outside so we went for a walk by Fenn Creek and took some pictures. Found this odd bug, it was huge. Any ideas what it is?

Well we managed to survive the V Festival with all 3 boys! Although I must say I was still aching 2 days later. Soon after we got there we were making our way to see The Proclaimers (quite fancied a sing song, speaking of which Maxïmo Park have covered their most well known song) when a guy Jon knows from his rock nights ran up saying Foo Fighters were on now! Turns out they were playing under the pseudonym of 606 on the Channel 4 Stage at 1 o'clock. So we ran over there and found a spot behind the cameramen. I didn't realise how much work it took to get those sweeping crowd shots until then!
We had some air guitar action from Tyler and Dillon during Jet's set and Jensy particular enjoyed Editors, after all he's seen them twice now. We also got to meet them in the signing tent.
Dillon was in awe of Snow Patrol, being totally obsessed with Spiderman at the moment Signal Fire from the soundtrack is his favourite song. His little face lit up when he cottoned on they were playing it. Jenson had a nap through the Happy Mondays proving if they are tired they can sleep through anything!
The weather was pretty good to us, only really chucking it down at the end, we left just as Foo Fighters were learning to fly, the boys were too tired and we couldn't carry them all!

Monday I got to have a rest and a day out all by myself and was very fortunate to attend the filming of The Peter Serafinowicz Show. I thought I'd just be in the audience but it was more of an extras thing! I don't want to spoil it for anyone but keep an eye out for an unusual Jeremy Kyle style show host and you may spot me. There was lots of waiting around but I found it fascinating, not only being in the same room as Peter and his brother (talented family) whose work I much admire and laugh too much at, but I also enjoyed watching how TV is made.

Wednesday was Dillon's 5th Birthday! Had to get up early and get down to Partyman World (which I highly recommend, healthy buffet and best soft play I've been too) for his party. While he ate breakfast I sneakily changed his covers to a new Spiderman set and his his presents (including spiderman lego) under the duvet. He was so surprised. He told me later he had the best birthday ever!

Yesterday we spend at Colchester Zoo...at last the sun came out! The Lar Gibbons and Mongoose particularly entertained the boys. Jenson got annoyed he couldn't get in and join the penguins!

They jumped the nest this morning and we've had fun watching them pootle about the garden trying to find each other. Dad is making many visits, they are a hungry brood! We've found a few worms and slugs for them too.

I have just finished (thanks to Jon being off work this week so fending off requests from small people long enough for me to read something for a change) reading my most treasured signed copy of The Timewaster Diaries (even got my own personal Parmaynu picture!) which you must go buy right this minute because it's so very funny and Robin is rather sweet once you get to know who wrote all those ridiculous letters in his previous books. Also if you don't buy it I'll play you Vanilla's No Way on loop in time to Gordon Brown doing that annoying thing he does when he talks. You know that this he does with his mouth that appears to represent a full stop.
My birds (whatever they are, I still don't know) are growing amazingly fast. I had no idea how quickly they grow.
I keep popping out to the garden for a peek now and then.
I've got a fair bit of work to do in the garden, I planned do it all this week but the moment Jon's holiday started I got poorly (to be exact it started while watching the golf and noticing all golfers have thin lips when I then threw up) and I still have a headache now. It's always the way.
I'm also so very excited at the idea of Bill Bailey doing Eurovision.

Had a look this morning and Mum was sitting in there keeping them toasty.

Had a quick peak when I hung the washing out this lunchtime and look what I found!

Tyler turned 8 on the rather damp bank holiday. Just our luck to book a golf party! Thankfully 8 year old boys can take a bit of rain, they can handle it as they said at the time. Tyler is still waiting for his big present, we ordered him an electric guitar and amp through AIPS. Rules are that you have top pick it up from school and it's not been open to do so. He did get some birthday money though, all predictably went on lego. We have so much now Ikea couldn't store it all. Even on the PC Tyler is building lego thanks to a rather cool Lego Digital Designer download.
Mark Francois (who narrowly beat Boris, now I'm not blue but I still would've rather enjoyed him being my MP) this week refused to sign the Breastfeeding Manifesto Early Day Motion I have asked him (repeatedly) to sign. Something about it being draconian he said. However if he took a minute perhaps to talk to the mums who use the breastfeeding room at the clinic (of which he as toured) he'd realise feeding in public is quite an issue for some women. So much so I have been asked for ideas of "safe" places for shy women to try out feeding in before braving the world. How ridiculous mothers doing their best for their baby end up feel this way. Why should we pander to somebody's neurotic hang ups about breasts and sex (especially when you'd see far more tit on a newsagent's shelf) and hide away babies. The more it's seen as a part of normal life the better. It's a non event, there shouldn't even be a need for such an EDM. I bet some cultures would be laughing about the fact it's an issue for us (Penn and Teller have an interesting view on it in a programme called Breast Hysteria, lots of nakedness in it so be warned). Anyway if he had read the manifesto properly he'd of realised it wasn't just about nursing in public but about support and helping all those mothers who give up and wish they hadn't, to continue and saving the NHS some money. He did however recently have time to unveil the new station sign, taking inspiration from this version of the train map it should be called Whore Farts Rude Homos, but when we go London we often drive to Spurt In Me instead.
I booked Maximo Park tickets (what a surprise) this week, something to look forward to in October. Based on Jenson's current little jiggy dance habit I think he'd like to go see CSS! He also likes Gorillaz and Daft Punk it seems.
Using the word jiggy up there obviously reminds me of that jiggy wit it Fresh Will Prince and his rapping antics. MJ Hibbett has done a rather funny little cover -

I'm currently in a state of lividity after reading this article about some tyrannical nanny. I mean you know only too well my issues with Gina Ford but this one is just ...well I'm speechless!
She totally contradicts herself too.
"The key to a happy baby is food. The mistake most mums make is that they don't feed their babies enough.
"I put the babies on a four-hour feeding schedule from the moment they get out of hospital," Claire says.

See, 4 hourly! What she on? Babies need feeding way more than that. On cue, which is frequently, is the healthiest way not only for their psychological development but to maintain a good supply so you can breastfeed successfully. Feed on schedule and if you manage to stay out of hospital with dehydration you may have a child who grows up with somekind of eating disorder. This woman also prescribes such treatment to premature babies. Has she not heard of the trouble Ezzo's ideas cause? I am seriously concerned there could be a death riding on the back of her advice.

"I won't stand for any nonsense from anybody, babies or their parents."

"The babies have to go into a routine from day one. They should be in their own cots. I won't have any babies sleeping with their parents in the same room.

Now even mainstream advice acknowledges the fact SIDS is higher in babies who sleep alone. I am a great believer in cosleeping anyway and that despite biased unsubstantiated media hype it actually lowers the risk of SIDS (or rather that cosleeping is the norm and alone sleep isn't. But then surely Claire would know this with her her knowledge of animal care?) if you have the time this review on cosleeping is a fantastic read on why babies shouldn't sleep alone and this is a good a place as any to stick a lovely article on babies, sleep and expectations.
"I don't care who the mum is, no one wants to be getting up at 3am to feed their baby."
*hands up* I do! Well I feed my baby about then..I think. I don't wake up to do it, and neither does Jenson. That's the way to do it!

Controversially, Claire says: "I start them on solids at 17 weeks. I don't care what the Government says, every baby is individual and some babies need more food than others."
There she is contradicting herself yet again, individual enough to need solids horrendously early (since when could a 17 week old sit unaided, have lost their tongue thrust, developed the gag reflex and ability to self feed? That is when they are ready) but apparently all babies need feeding every 4 hours and sleep through the night from day one.
Early weaning is putting the baby at risk of allergies, a strain on the kidneys and basically they can fail to thrive. Milk is high in calories and all the essential nutrients they need. Building blocks for that fantastic brain, solids will just replace a much required feed.

Cuddles are also restricted. Claire says too much fuss can make a baby crave attention.

"Imagine having a dog with a ball and you keep throwing it for them. Then all of a sudden you stop and walk away and they don't understand.

"It will think: 'Why have you stopped playing with me?' It will start barking, dropping the ball at your feet and annoying you.

"It's the same with a baby. If a baby's picked up for half an hour, cuddled and then put down, it will get upset.

FFS So you can't cuddle them because you might put them down again because they won't understand like a dog. Yet you can leave them alone at night in a room to cry to sleep when they depend on mum to survive thus leaving them in distress when they don't understand, you can make them wait to be feed until the clock says so yet they don't understand.
Young babies left unheld feel unsecure, it's innate, they feel at risk in case of a predator. Again yet more stress hormones whizzing round a very impressionable body. Not holding them is damaging.
This is reminding me of the institutionalized orphans and the brain damage witnessed in children deprived of love and affection (from Margot Sunderland's book The Science of Parenting, full of useful science to explain just how damaging this approach to childcare is). Awww I'm writing this in bed, Jenson's little feet on my leg. He opened his eyes, laughed and went back to sleep. He's happy and knows I'm here for him.
Children want cuddles because they need them. The early years are a crucial time for brain development, cuddles and responsive parenting will help the neural pathways forming to do so in a postive way. I can see Verity trained children having attachment problems.
If you are detached, cause your baby to be stressed and neglect them in the ways this "expert" advises you to your child will pay the price. Their brain will not have formed properly, mental and physical consequences will arise for their lifetime. Huge price for them to pay for their parents' selfish decision to want a trained baby. If you can't commit yourself enough to your baby to treat them in a way that respects the way they are, then just don't have them. It's not like seeing to their needs is a chore. Being a loving caring mum is the most fun ever!
I'm reminded a little of this comedy sketch

because this celebrity nanny has clearly seen her clients coming. Used a load of spirit breaking techniques, force children into a convenient seen and not heard state, takes the money and off she goes with no concern about the consequences.

Children who experience the chronic stress of neglect-e.g., remaining hungry, cold, scared, or in pain-will also focus their brains' resources on survival. This chronic stimulation of the brain's fear response means that the regions of the brain involved in this response are frequently activated. When they are, other regions of the brain, such as those involved in complex thought, can not also be activated and are therefore not "available" to the child for learning (Shore (1997). Rethinking the brain. New York: Families and Work Institute.)

Dissociation is characterized by first attempting to bring caretakers to help, and if this is unsuccessful, becoming motionless (freezing) and compliant and eventually dissociating; this is often called the "surrender" response (Perry, Pollard, Blakely, Baker & Vigilante, 1995 Childhood trauma, the neurobiology of adaptation and "use-dependent" development of the brain: How "states" become "traits"). (I think this is what is to be perceived to be controlled crying working)

As it's Breastfeeding Awareness Week I just had to post this excellent article in the Guardian , very much helps explain my weird ways in refusing to buy or consume anything Nestle and taking pictures of formula displays that breech regulations in supermarkets! I don't half get funny looks.
Here is a great advert from down under fighting back at the nursing in public prudes.

I mean honestly if anyone is offended by a mother breastfeeding they have my sympathies. Must be such a miserable life having a mind that thinks in that way. It's a lovely sight. You see far more flesh in magazines and TV when breasts are used to sell crap. I've been very lucky, even when feeding a 2 year old out and about I never got confronted. I don't think anyone would dare!
Everybody go sign this to help those women who have been asked to stop feeding and those who are too shy to feed in public in case some neurotic ignorant jumps on them for doing a fantastic thing in nursing their child.
Breastfeeding in public is an education for the next generation of parents. If children see it now, they will grow up thinking of it as the normal way to feed a baby, which it is!
Ban advertising, get all health professionals trained properly to give support, dispell the load of myths about it, tell Dad's who want to bottlefeed so they "get a go" to grow up and maybe one day all those women physically capable (which is 98%) of breastfeeding will. We might even then have enough milk banks to help out the Mums who really can't feed.

Maxïmo Park yet again leave me wanting more! If Jenson wasn't so young (as I felt guilty enough for going out anyway) I would so go again tonight....and tomorrow. If you get the chance you just must go to really appreciate them. I've seen them four times over the past couple of years (first time being at Colchester Uni in April 2005) and they just get better!
I left Jon behind with the boys and headed off to meet my old school friend recently engaged Lucy (congratulations!), got there in time to see Electrelane but missed Cougar who I quite fancied hearing. I've heard a few tracks and I think they would settle in nicely in my Four Tet/Lemon Jelly/Air kind of playlist. Perfect for summer's days.
After lots of hot and sweaty singalong bouncing about and spelling out catchy lines with raised fists (and there are loads of those, The Night I Lost my Head has the added interest of counting out with fingers) we made our way over to Punk to catch up with the lovely Marsha at the aftershow. As per usual the last train home scenario cropped up so we couldn't stay for long. Luckily though we bumped into Lukas, Paul and Duncan on the way out so got to thank them in person for a great night.Books from Boxes is the next single out in June.

Tomorrow is Jenson's birthday! Just how fast has this year gone?

He's a happy little thing who is cute to the point of distraction. I mean how am I supposed to get on with housework when he looks at me like that? I just have to go play and cuddle with him.
His favourite activities are nursing, staying awake because there's too much to explore to have a nap, sweeping the floor, riding on my back in the babyhawk, getting dirty knees, chasing ants (already they have invaded my house),dancing (he seems to like a good beat, Daft Punk, CSS and Gorillaz get him going), eating and brother cuddles!

She was hit by a car yesterday lunchtime and died instantly it seems.
We'd had her 7 years, Tyler chose her and her son (he found a new home, think he got fed up of a house full of children) when he was a toddler.
It's very odd not having her under our feets, nearly went down the cat food aisle in Asda today too. The boys drew some lovely pictures of her and Dillon decided to give his to her so she won't be lonely.

Serious case of jealousy going on here today! What with Jenson still being all small I am not happy leaving him with anybody other than Jon (and even then I get serious guilt pangs). So when I managed to get tickets to the recording of Kevin Eldon's sketch show pilot only one of us could go. While I was stuck at home watching Life on Mars Jon was wallowing in the presence of comedy genii!
He only blimming got chatting to Simon Munnery, Julia Davis, Julian Barrett, Stewart Lee and Kevin himself got Jon a drink. Bugger!
However I did find out a little photoshop of mine (badly done one of Tony Rudd with Kate Moss) amused Kevin and his girlfriend!
Also heard a bit of news about The Peter Serafinowicz Show. He does a fantastic Terry Wogan as seen on the Lost Episode of Blankety Blank, and there will be some sketches involving him. I can't wait. I hope to get tickets.

You know what I'm like with the "wrong" music thing -

There are a few words in the english language that make me laugh by just their mere mention, flange for example. So imagine my reaction to the trailer for the film The Last Mimzy. Supposed to be a film for children too! I guess mimsy means something different in the US.

Yay! Read here for news on a recent law change with regards to formula labelling claims. These claims they currently make really make me cross, with all this "closer to breasmilk" nonsense....it's about as close to breastmilk as Ratners were to Tiffanys! Now if only somebody would stop the annoying "take good care of my baby" adverts I'd be happy. Whatever it is Norway are doing to achieve the fantastic rates they do we should copy in my opinion.
Speaking of breastfeeding I toddled home at 3am Saturday morning with boobs rivalling Katie Price (well that's how it felt) to find Jon and Jenson all curled up together in bed. I had great time at the lovely Marsha's birthday party! Well worth the venture to London. Only trouble is living out here you always have to leave these things early to get the last train home.
Been making the most of this gorgeous weather by trying to find the bottom of my laundry pile. I'm nearly there! Sad isn't it really.
Got V tickets though, taking the whole brood.

Tiggsy's been busy at school this week! I am a fan of tie dye stuff on children, got a fair bit for Jenson. I like lots of colours!

Just a quicky off out tonight, first time in a year. So if you see a mad milky disorientated woman walking the streets of London it's probably me. I'm not usually let out at night!
Guilt has already started to kick in, for leaving Jensy so small, for Jon not getting to go because he will be looking after the boys and for spending the money!
Off to juggle the task of having a bath and cooking dinner whilst supervising Mr slidypants. He doesn't crawl due to laminateness of house, he slide commando style in pursuit of our cat. I know I do baby led weaning but I'm not letting him consume cat's tail even if he wants to.

Phew thank goodness that was over! I watched it but covered my eyes up when I was on. Mind you that was worse as I got to hear my terrible Essex accent innit. Anything remotely intelligent I had to say was cut but I was happy as I felt the overall view it gave was good.
Obviously the GF fans bugged me silly. Bloody Eamonn and Ruth (who annoy me anyway, I'm allergic to GMTV) with their smug faces boasting about their child sleeping through. For goodness sake, your child's sleeping habits are in no way indicative of your parenting skills or your child's happiness. I'm a tad weird I guess in not actually wishing my babies to sleep through. Especially from a SIDS persepective I believe babies should be easy to rouse from sleep and they need to feed often and never to sleep alone.
Anyway I personally think GF fans are either uninformed of the risks, aware but selfish, or in denial. Surely you cannot ignore the plethora of well educated and very experienced experts in child care and mental health that all seriously question the methods in Gina's books. But then if you are capable of ignoring your own child...

It's World Book Day today and the boys have dressed up for school!
It's hard to think of something easy to do with short notice.
Personally I was tempted to send Dill in to school with a grey jumper and plastic poo on his head for the book The Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business but I'm not sure how the school would take it. Fantastic book though!

I hadn't realised it had been so long since I blogged. Those boys and schools runs keeping me busy. Plus computer time has been limited since the main PC gave up on us!
Must admit we did abuse it a little, expecting way too much from it, not enough memory, dodgy heatsink/fan wotsit, it overclocked all summer unless we took the sides off!
Thank goodness I have the laptop but I am missing my photoshop!

Tyler came out with a funny one today.

He's been learning electric guitar at school and they are allowed to make song requests. Tiggsy asked for Teen Spirit. The teacher taught him how to play it and told him a little about Kurt Cobain. Then today we watched the video on youtube. I told him about Dave Grohl now being in Foo Fighters. Tyler then asked why they didn't replace Kurt and carry on like when they replaced Gregg in the Wiggles with Sam! I just had to write that down to show him in a decade!

I'll be on TV Monday night perhaps. Although part of me hopes I've been edited out! Travelling into London with baby in tow is not at all conducive to a glamourous yummy mummy ready for her close up, more like a frazzled milky harrassed one! I also rambled on for hours and I'm sure I missed out lots of intelligently thought out points against GF and only came out with nonsense. I'll be watching with my eyes a bit closed.
Anyone who knows me knows gina is my nemesis. I could write on for hours about my problem with her but I'll try and shorten it.

She's unqualified and has no children.

Dominating! The bookshelves that is. For years now she's been faced up with a shelftalker out the bottom (before you ask no I will not photoshop that) in Waterstones. Walk into Mothercare and all you can find is her and Supernanny (I also have issues with her but at least she did try and defend herself when I rang her once). What hope has a new mum with little support have of making an informed choice when the only options are of the strict detached quick fix variety?

Her methods appear to work. Society and it's warped childist view on how babies should behave has led to many people believing the behaviour of a trained baby to be desirable. Convenient it maybe, healthy it is not! There's a serious lack of foresight in quick fix approaches to parenting like those in her books.

Scheduled feeding, if you have common sense it should be obvious this is wrong. Successful full term breastfeeding would be hard to achieve on such a regime. You may manage a month or 2, after that supply issues can arise. Controlling food is a dodgy thing to do, what kind of associations are being made by teaching a child to ignore hunger signs. Then you have the serious risk of dehydration. Babies should be fed on cue, all the evidence supports this so why does GF say otherwise?

Leaving babies to cry. For me just the knowledge that right now somewhere in this world at least one baby is being left to cry brings me close to tears myself. Even the mums I know who have done this say "it breaks your heart to do it..." Yes it does...because it's supposed to! Mothers are supposed to be stressed by their babies cries so they can respond accordingly. But these mothers believe they are doing good because some book or uneducated health visitor has told them to do it.
To put it basically it's brain damaging. It's negatively influencing the way that young immature brain is developing. All those pathways are being made under the influence of hormones released through stress. Buggering it all up! This is where the foresight comes in. Baby may seem fine the next day, try waiting a decade and see how it is then. If the brain develops under these conditions all kinds of problems can arise, from mental health issues like depression to stress related conditions and immune system disorders. Addictions is more likely too. I don't remember seeing a disclaimer in the contented baby book pointing out these risks.

The excuse GF fans give. Happy mum=happy baby bollocks. Yes a baby will pick up on your moods. Still no excuse for moulding your child into some unatural, unhealthy routine with the only benefits being those for the parents (or so they think, if they experienced and attached replationship with their child they will realise what they are missing). Blimming selfish if you ask me.
If anything strict regimes can lead to depressed mothers. If you have no idea about babies except your baby and some bestselling book and your baby doesn't fit the book, you may feel a failure (I've been informed this is a common side effect of the books). If you are already predisposed to PND it's certainly not going to help you at all. Just the crying will alter your own stress levels and affect your mood. Attached babies who have their needs met are quite often happier babies.
Babies have a right to be treated the way they are physiologically designed to be cared for. They have some innate behaviour to help guide the mother in her caregiving but when some book tells you to ignore all of that, all those years of evolution that have gone into creating us, it's just plain bonkers. That's numberwang!
She's robbing us blind. Of money (40 quid to join her website to hear more of this nonsense), of instincts (because telling a mother to not feel guilty about leaving her baby to cry is doing just that), of bonding, of a life (how do you go out when sticking to some routine), and of fun!

Grrrrr this stuff just really pisses me off!

Formula companies now make all their packaging vague, so you see the brand name rather than the specific product name. So then they can get away with advertising like this. This is from UK Living website. SMA nutrition also have adverts on the channel and online. It's blatantly targeting pregnant women and new mums. They keep getting away with it, nobody is stopping them. We have laws against some advertising but you are lucky if trading standards bother to do anything about it. Our laws are inadequate anyway, we need to adhere to the International Code.
It might seem like an load of old fuss about nothing to most people, but this advertising really does influence mums.
Just look at the results of this survey in the US just proving the influence of formula marketing upon parents.
It would be lovely if we were like Norway.

Well I'm all older now. Spent most of the day rather oddly practising my lactational aim! Jenson developed a rather gunky eye situation overnight so there's nothing better for that than a bit of breastmilk and it's natural antibiotic properties.

Despite his gunkyness Jenson was happy enough to take out for a lovely birthday lunch at The Waterfront Place. My food was just so delicious I actually took a photo! The beer battered fish just melted, I ate extra slowly to prolong the experience. Rarely that happens, I've normally got a small person or three to see too so I wolf down my food. Jenson happily played with the vegetables, flirted with the waitress and nicked some of my "jenga" chips to scoff!

I got a brilliant present from Jon and the boys. A new iPod nano in green. My poor old one looks like a brick in comparison. I remember the days when I was impressed when walkmans could stop at the beginning of the next song when you pressed forward. Perhaps I really am 28 now then. I don't feel it though. I got stuck at 19 in my head.

If you've seen my myspace recently you'll notice my new wintry theme. I'm hoping it'll intice some snow in my direction. Next week is looking very interesting in that department.
I'm of to treat myself with a birthday beer. My favourite one in fact, called Brahma from Brazil.

Diagnosis Murder on the dance floor!

I have always played this silly game where I like to hear the wrong music. Just like Joel "coke copy me" Veitch and his Morris Dancers. I personally lack the software (as you can see) at the moment to adequately create my own goings on in my head (I also need new PC, only got 256 ram and a buggered fan ...I'm torturing the poor thing).
So I play with you tube. I suggested the idea for Jumpen vs Okey Kokey for example and some kindly fellow made it for me.

Today's b3ta newsletter alerted me to this fine collaboration of dancing Dick
and it goes mightly well with some Hancock as you would expect. Anyway I like to experiment and turn the sound off and play with some other songs. I particularly like to combine the footage with some Jamiroquai...not Canned Feet as you'd expect (although it works well) but I like it with the classic floor filler Space Cowboy Dave Morales' mix.

You know when you are not quite awake properly you can't be sure what you hear or watch is real. Well I've had a couple of moments like that, mainly involving BBC Breakfast News.
Whilst in labour with Jenson the news was on in the background, high on gas an air, I thought the story about Labour spending £300 on Star Trek costumes was my imagination.
Then more recently I woke up to the Breakfast coverage of the Two of Us show, Jim Branning practising for his Maneater performance!
Now Rik of Headstaggers has spoken of Jim's vocal talents for a long time now so it was like some kind of strange dream to see this on the news.
Finally today, bleary eyed and nursing a sleepy Jenson, I had to laugh at the story of Morrisey possibly doing Eurovision for us this year!
Dermot Murghnanhahnan then ended this mornings show with a scandalous revelation that he "always swallows" when asked the age old question. He such a cad that one, with his special super fertile red sofa!

Even little 8 month old people get bed hair!
He's such a little sweety at the moment (he always has been), little hands wanting to explore everything he sees. I love the little smile we get when I get near enough to something he's watching and he gets to touch it. Gravity is also an exciting play thing. As soon as you've picked one thing up he's thrown something else. All this experimenting you'd think would wear Jenson out but he's so interested in the world he fights sleep. He can go all day nearly without a nap if it's a particularly interesting day.

Oh bugger! Just found out Jon is DJing until 2 tonight. So it's just me tucked in my cosy chocolate bed (just bought a new brown jersey duvet set), raspberry pavlova, mini cheddars and wine watching a bit of Jools.
So you get two posts today. Double the nonsense. At the moment I have 4 tabs open on my firefox; you tube, hunnybeez, blogger and b3ta.
I was just watching Doctor Who's The Leisure Hive to see what Nigel Lambert looks like because love his narration in Look Around You. He is all warm and nostalgic. I'm sure he narrated something in my childhood just can't think what. I'm inclined to think perhaps it was one of my Storyteller stories. I had the whole set and they all went in some bootsale I think. I loved that Dot and the Kangaroo story...it's all coming back to me now!

Ten minutes left of the year, and I'm blimming blogging! Usually Jon and I would have a takeaway on New Years Eve. When the boys are older I expect we will have parties.

I noticed today just how much Jenson is like Tyler. You can also see some Dillon features (bottom left) but if you see a picture of Tyler at 8 months (there's a bit missing as there was a mishap with the only copy of that photo) and Jenson now you'd think it were the same child!

Great that means I'm older in just over 2 weeks. Bugger. As I said last year still not grown up enough to be this old.

Where was I, oh yes I have you tube open also because I just uploaded a bit of Dillon having a little sing in Macaroni Grill on Friday. He wouldn't sing during his Christmas play at school (he played a ball in Babushka) but will on his own with all the attention. Typical Leo!
I had a yummy bit of Key Lime pie and a perfect glass of Pinot Grigio. I love taking the boys there as the children's meals are rather good, actual vegetables are involved for a start and you can draw on the tables which is the best bit!

I had a tiring Christmas. Not entirely sure why as I didn't really do alot. Spent the day at Jon's Mum's place. We turned up to find a car sticking out of the hedge!
About 10 minutes before we arrived it had crashed and the driver ran off. Jon's family hadn't noticed until we mentioned it. So we had the police round Christmas day. The owner was soon round to apologise for of her offspring's antics!

Did you see that fat quiz of the year? The presence of Noel Fielding kind of counteracts the Carrness making it tolerable. Peep scarf, mouse peril and cheese shipment. You can guarantee some sillyness. Brand was on his team, an obvious choice aesthetically. I've realised though I prefer old Brand. Especially after watching him interview some absurd BNP youth leader. He should go back to this stuff instead of just prancing about with his 'citing ball bags and that.

We've been fairly busy this week, a few parties including a lovely Winter Solstice party at Roxy's house.
She made some yummy croissanty mincemeat twisty things. I have managed to find some dough since and I'll give it a go too. Last minute shopping and Happy Feet yesterday and a search for fairy lights that work today. That failed. Our old ones died yesterday so bought some more and they died after a few seconds. *touchwood* we still have some on the tree that work.
Pressies are all built (that Tardis set was a bugger, plastic thingys everywhere) and wrapped. Buzzcocks, pringles and wine...so I'm off now!

Just a few christmas tunes I've picked out. I read this account of life in SWF during the war on the BBC site a while ago now and while flicking through a book of old pics I found the shop. It was actually built by some relatives on my husband's side of the family.
It's now a private home that I walk past everyday on the school run. Nice to see there was once a time when Asda didn't rule.
They are knocking down a fair few old buildings these days so I might try and capture a few before they go.

Sunday we took the boys to see Father Christmas at Altons, thought we'd get in there before the December rush. Great value for money, you get a very friendly Father Christmas, a christmas card making set and a real christmas tree to plant in your garden for a fiver. Tyler was his usual chatty self but Dillon was a bit shy. Jenson just said babababa and blew a raspberry. His usual conversation, although I swear he tries to say brothers now. You just have to say that and you get a great big smile from him.

The B3ta website have a newsletter where at the bottom they make absurd requests for what they'd like to see. Many happily oblige, making objects from melted haribo sweets or eat brightly coloured foods to see what poo emerges. Reminds me of The Word a bit.
Anyway I have my own list that I dare Jon to do, he's yet to take up the challenge.
For example I'd like to see someone busk the hits of Paul Simon outside the curtain shop of the same name.
I want to arrange a flash mob in my local asda. Assemble the members of the SWF myspace group, take over the walking mike with Black Lace and Conga down the aisles.
One silly thing we do though is what we've called snarfstalking. We've noticed many shops (Tescos or PCWorld for example) are bluetoothable. So we take a picture of the shop or a joke one (every little helps *groan* I know photoshopping brings out the worst in me) and bluetooth it to the shop.
Back to woodham again, I had this premonition of the future.

Now parking is limited in town to 3 hours only by corporate decree, shops are closing down like nobodies business and soon parking won't be allowed down many of our residential streets. You can see how not driving and being able to escape here sometimes can drive me a bit bonkers.

Tyler and Dillon are getting excited about Christmas. Dillon is playing a ball in the Christmas play, Tyler is singing and possibly playing guitar, he has electric guitar lessons at school and they've taught him to play the Doctor Who theme. He's been sent hom with lyrics to Shakin' Stevens Christmas classic. So we use the wonders of you tube to show him the original. It's so handy, especially for nostlagic moments. I found this awful performance by Buck Fizz on Pebble Mill strangely amusing. I've been thoroughly enjoying killing time browsing through this guys collection of 80's adverts and really want to see the rest of this episode of Telly Addicts. Particularly love the TV listings there. Very Look Around You.
This week I got myself a haircut, got bored, asked for something new so got a fringe and layers. Also got some fluffy post as it's known in sling fetish circles. A gorgeous custom made reversible XT babyhawk. It's fantastically comfy, big thanks to Becky for organising that!

For those of you who refuse to give one penny of their money to those bastards at Nestle I hope will understand my joy when the products I have missed all now have adequate replacements! There's Terrys Waifa, filling the gap kitkat chunky left, Terry's the Chocolate Orange Mint bar replacing the mint aero and finally for any lion bar urges I have Terry's Caramel Bite. Thanks Terry (whoever he is, Jon suggests Nutkins) for answering an ethical (ish) consumer out with her chocolate cravings.

If you have the time The History of Oil by that clever Rob Newman (see my husband's blog for Rob doing Pebble mill!) is worth a watch imo. You can catch it on more4 but it seems to only be on at ridiculous times like 2am. So thank goodness for things like google video and you tube eh!
I'm also rather liking this new way of displaying the time although I'm concerned that fellow synaesthesists who have already allocated colours to numbers won't remember the colour times. I colour days, today is a bit like this, tomorrow more like this and Wednesday most definately like this.

Having 2 Alfie Kohn books on the go right now (like I have time to read!) I was so happy to read this story on rethinking primary education. My favourite bit would be
It called for an emphasis on "children's intrinsic interest in learning", instead of using "fear of disapproval or desire for praise" to motivate them.
My school years were dominated by trying to keep to he straight A standard people expected from me. I thought nobody would like me if I failed. Caused me way too much stress so I don't want my children thinking like that. I want them to learn because children are naturally curious not because they'll get a sticker/team point/marble. It's shame all this target crap ruins school.
I would actually love to home educate but I'm just too isolated for it to work. No driving and the fact there are very few home schooling families about ( I don't know of any in woodham) means I'd probably not speak to any adults other than Jon for weeks on end! If only there was a Steiner place round here.

It's our anniversary today, not that we can celebrate much so just had the usual takeaway from Chilis...our local scrummy indian fusion restaurant.
Serious multitasking evening sewing name labels into Dillon's uniform while feeding Jenson in bed. Dill starts tomorrow, he's still so little turning 4 just 2 weeks ago. He seems happy enough with the idea though.

Jenson is as gorgeous as always,not far off 5 months now. It does amaze me though looking at him that many babies his age are already on solids! I have a theory on that...either parents mistake the 16 weekish growth spurt (where they just need more milk and feed alot to get supply up) with needing solids, or they get bored. Bored of just milk and now want highchairs, bowels and all that paraphernalia! We do it the baby led way. Having experienced the traditional 4 month puree way with Tyler (i knew no better then) and the BLW with an 8 month old Dillon I can easily say BLW is easier and much healthier.
Anyway I'm sure I'll have fun pics of a sweet potato covered Jenson and tripp trapp in a few months time!

I found the best job ever (in my opinion as someone who interrupted their Physics degree with reproducing activites) in the New Scientist this week. Imagine that! Which reminds me of the fantastic shirt I bought that husband of mine this week.

Jon,Jenson and I all went V on Saturday. We did plan to take them all but we found out too late that Tyler would need a ticket, we know for next time though!
We didn't hear a peep out of Jenson (except when beer was thrown over the Radiohead crowd while I was feeding him and it got him a bit!), he loved all the attention I think. I missed out on a few bands I fancied like Young Knives and Go! Team as it was too loud in a tent for a baby (I plan on getting those baby ear defenders for next time), Girls Aloud looked popular, people were flocking to that tent.
Kula Shaker were great, I like their new anti Bush song. I really enjoyed Editors, definately give a more confident performance compared with last year. Their REM Orange Crush cover was fantastic. I saw just a bit of Radiohead and Kasabian (last song we heard before we left was Empire) but decided to beat the queue out and left early. Got home in half an hour just in time to stick E4+1 on to watch what we had just seen for ourselves!

You can probably guess I'm keeping a close eye on this Gina Ford/mumsnet malarky! (loving morningpaper's apology)
This publicity is great, I'm hoping it alerts some parents to why some people hate the books she writes so much and go find out for themselves what the possible consequences of the methods advocated in such baby training type books are. It really is quite amazing (well I think so) when you learn just how much is going on in that little body, and how they are treated in these early years is so important.
I don't deny these quick fixes can work but I don't actually want the outcome you get with a trained baby. I want babies whose mind and body does what it naturally is supposed to do. They should wake at night to feed (and when nuzzled up against mum there is little disruption to sleep anyway), it's healthier from a SIDS perspective they are easier to rouse like this (see the work of James McKenna at the Mother-Baby Sleep Lab, link at the side). They should feed very frequently, they have so much growing to do, all those essential fats needed for the brain developing at a fantastic rate and teeny tummys. They should "manipulate" us into getting as many cuddles as possible. Not that the manipulation is done with intent (their little brain isn't developed enough to form that kind of thought anyway) but inate and done for survival. To make sure they thrive and are looked after properly. Trouble is the fashion for a while has been to learn to ignore this.
Babies know they need tonnes of touch and cuddles, this helps create positive healthy pathways between neurons..then we get happy, healthy and confident adults later on. You need foresight in this job, and well it's hardly a chore to snuggle up with a yummy baby.
If you leave them to cry alot and make them wait to be fed it's not helping them fulfill their potential, those synapses formed in this case are going to form a brain that's not as healthy. Hormones released under the stressful situation of being left to cry alone or seperated from parents too often have an undesirable influence too. In fact research shows they can end up with all kinds of problems, depression, learned helplessness, addictions, stress related illnesses and eating disorders. Dehydration is also a known risk when schedule feeding a baby.
I'm sure many parents if they knew would not risk this outcome for the sake of an "easy" baby and an evening to themselves. To be honest to me all this training nonsense looks like hardwork with no benefit anyway.
Now i'm on number 3 I can truly appreciate how much fun it is just to really get to know your baby and just go with the flow.

Do you think now authors can go and censor the net I can go censor books? If I got my hands on that book it would be full of blank pages..and then possibly be the best childcare book ever!

Feeling really crap recently. Ever since school finished. It might be a healing crisis from the homeopathic treatment for my colitis or just general run downness, I don't know exactly but somehow I have caught a cold during the heatwave! How on earth did that happen?
Anyway boys are bored already, we did all the Back to the Future's today, has to be done. Might make them watch Flight of the Navigator tomorrow. I need to get Wargames on dvd too. They will watch my childhood films if I have anything to do with it.

I'm rather excited about this idea about getting the Hoff to number 1. Considering how popular his Greatest Hits is I'm surprised he's not made it to the top of the charts already.

I've been so busy what with all this running to school and back I didn't get round to adding any words to my last blog.
We basically had a lovely day in London. Met some fellow babywearers including the lovely Jemma and her gorgeous children in the Natural History Museum . We even got to swap babies for a cuddle as you can see in the pictures. Popped over to Earls Court to see the TARDIS (loving that devil in tonights episode), bit of shopping in Covent Garden and Tyler spent some birthday money in Hamleys. Completely knackered when we got home as you can imagine.
Please excuse any typos from now on as doing that one handed blogging whilst breastfeeding thing.
This week I've mostly been a bit warm, wearing my new yummy sling from Calin Bleu (perfect for this weather), listening to a few new albums like The Feeling's debut. When they say they like ELO they are not kidding! If they ever remake Xanadu they could do the ElO bit, Kylie would be a good Kira, I suppose I'd stick Robbie in as Sonny and perhaps Lionel Blair in Gene Kelly's role!

I've also been playng Worms on the PSP, it's just a bit addictive that game!

Been rather neglectful of my blogging duties. Although I have had plenty to say (still got my birth story to write, a massive rant about the evils of the gina ford, my suspicions on completely unsubstantiated cosleeping warnings that seem to arise funnily enough everytime it's breastfeeding week oh and Jenson has been smiling!) but anyway yes either I'm on the net onehanded (as feeding at the time)so I make typos or when I have got both my hands at my disposal I fall asleep watching Big Brother (anyone else think Nikki is some hybrid emo chav being with all that whining?). So i've not blogged when I should have.
Tomorrow is a long day as doing the Natural History museum to meet lots of fab babywearers and then probably nip off to Earls Court to see the TARDIS. So I need my sleep. I'll just leave you with this fun thingy -

A while ago now I was tagged by Jemma and I might as well do it now before I forget (I tend to do that alot!) so here are my 6 strange facts you may not know about me -

1. I got my tits out for page 3!

2. I hate nuts in stuff. Nuts on their own are fine (except when pregnant/lactating) but in chocolate/food/ice cream I feel sick. Relates back to an incident as a girl involving ice cream, chopped nuts and orange juice!

3. Apparently I have an IQ of 155 (did a proper Mensa test when I were 17) although I somewhat suspect I lost a fair few points at Uni.

4. I don't like the noise of hard bristle brooms on the floor.

5. I'm right handed yet eat like I'm left handed.

6. I have a Blue Peter badge.

There was a great article in The Sunday Times about sleep and the child's mental health which is something I'm really interested in. Basically I parent by instinct and found life is so much easier if you trust the baby to know when they are tired and hungry. Turns out science backs this idea up too. I'll leave it at that for now other wise I'll miss Big Brother!

Just a tad busy this week now Jon is back at work and having to managed the 3 times a day school run with 3 boys! Thank goodness the weather has just been so gorgeous and I have an ever expanding sling collection to help me with Jenson (see my flickr page). Extremely handy as he is just so yummy I don't want to put him down!
Yet again Antony Carmichael gets a mention in the SWF Focus, he appears to be adding up his column inches of late as he was spotted in Heat the other day too!

Perhaps he is planning a comeback? Personally I think we need to track him down for Eurovision.
Yesterday we popped in on the baby clinic for the opening of the new breastfeeding room and support group! Great that there is something local now. I used to have to get the train to Burnham for LLL meetings when I were feeding Dillon. While on the subject there is a great article in The Ecologist (thanks Tracy) on the subject. Also I don't care what Anita Roddick says; as a Nestle boycotter I refuse to buy anything from the Body Shop! It's same as that "fairtrade" Nescafe. Just because they are doing one nice thing doesn't make up for all the unethical behaviour in my book!

Well after just the 6 months of knowing we had a little man on the way we finally decided on a name...Jenson Lukas!
Jenson because it means Jon's son and Lukas because Tyler suggested Lucky and Lukas is sometimes shortened to Lucky so that keeps him happy!
Off now for more snuggly feeds!
